The ArmorVault™ tornado shelter is engineered and designed to withstand F-5 Tornadic winds and the force of falling debris. The ArmorVault™ shelter has been fully tested and certified by Texas Tech. Wind Science And Engineering. This testing consist of high velocity missles shot into the door and sides of the shelter with the force equal to flying debris that a F-5 tornado can and does produce.
ArmorVault™ above ground shelters can be bolted to existing concrete in your garage or out building. ArmorVault™ may also be set in place during new home construction.
Engineers calculations reflect a force of 4,890 lbs. hold down power required to withstand a 300 mph tornadic wind. ArmorVaults™ completed anchor system produces 133,000 lbs of shear strength and 132,520 lbs of tension strength. Greatly exceeding the force of any tornado.

Above Ground Shelter Testing
The Debris Impact Test Facility at the Texas Tech University Wind Science and Engineering Research Center conducted successful tests on the Armor Vault above ground steel safe-room on July 14, 2003.
The test results reflect the shelter and door assembly successfully passed the FEMA 320 debris impact test protocol. The test protocol of the 15-lb. 2x4 missile traveling at 100 mph is required by FEMA 320 and relates to a missile propelled by 250 mph ground level wind speeds. The permanent deflections on the tested shelter and door assembly were less than the 3-in. FEMA protocol and all lock mechanisms remained engaged during and after testing.
